One of the most important traffic junctions in Remscheid, the “Eisernstein junction” has been reconstructed into a modern roundabout over the past 2 years.
Now, with completion almost ahead, this new roundabout has been equipped with an appropriate symbol in the middle …a sculpture made by Dirostahl.
Our sculpture of three seamlessly rolled rings has the shape of a globe. The three rings in high grade steel C15 are between 2.4 and 3.4 m in diameter and have been mounted onto an axle before having been twisted to form a globe. The total weight of this sculpture is 6.5 tonnes.
The globe shall symbolize the historical power of Remscheid´s steel and tool industry over decades. Still today many locally-made goods are supplied into the world, from the heart of our region “Bergisches Land” The roundabout will soon be opened, and it will surely not be forbidden to take some extra spins around our sculpture.
